Gars 卖了

One of Brighton’s best known restaurant institutions has been sold in a six-figure deal agreed and negotiated by Graves Jenkins.

The popular Gars restaurant which has traded from Prince Albert Street in the centre of Brighton’s Lanes for almost 40 years has been acquired by FAR Restaurants Ltd and forms part of the Wolfox, Botanique and Kusaki restaurant family.

The restaurant trades over three impressive floors and has been operated by the Gar family since its inception in 1983 offering modern fine dining Chinese food. The new owners have entered into a new lease at a rent of £62,500 per annum.

“It was a great honour to be entrusted to act on behalf of the Cheung family to find a suitable buyer for their significant business interest having operated for the past five decades. As with any business sale, it was a fairly complicated transaction but assisted greatly by the fellow professional team involving Rix & Kay solicitors and Friend James accountants”, commented Phil Graves who handled the sale.

The buyers have some new ideas and designs for the premises and menu but without losing the ethos of the long established business.

Gar Cheung added, “It was a big decision to make after such a long period of trading, but we felt the time was right for some of us to retire from the business. It was important to us that the new owners were experienced in the Brighton restaurant scene so that our good name and reputation can continue. Special thanks to Phil who went over and above what was asked of him to secure the right deal for us.”
